Professional Experience

March 2022 - Present

Updates Writer

Remote / Richmond, VA

The Spruce is an online publication that offers expert advice on creating the home you've always dreamed of. As a member of the commerce team, I research and test products that are being considered for our product round-ups. I also provide content updates on a rotating basis with every commerce beat editor on The Spruce.

I compile weekly reports for our team about new product releases and trending topics. Based on trending keywords, top performing roundups, and seasonal topics, I then recommend updates to our commerce team.

June 2021 - March 2022

Editorial Fellow

Southern Living

Birmingham, AL

As a fellow, I was in the unique position of exploring almost every aspect of how Southern Living operates as a magazine and online publication. I worked under the social media editor and delivered weekly TikTok analytic updates. In addition, I  wrote 5-7 articles every week for Southern Living's digital brand while pitching weekly ideas.

I also assisted in scheduling and promoting content across Southern Living's social media platforms, and brainstormed new ways to deliver relevant content across digital and print platforms.

University of Richmond, Boatwright Memorial Library

Richmond, VA (Remote)

The UR Scholarship Repository is an expansive resource for University students and community members. It serves as a hub for published work from professors and students, and is easily accessible through the library's website.

I was responsible for researching publisher permissions for work that authors requested to be included in the repository. I also uploaded the work into the repository, once we received appropriate permissions from publishers.

February 2021 - May 2021

PR Intern

Golden Word, LLC

Richmond, VA (Remote)

Golden Word is Richmond's boutique public relations firm with national press reach. As a PR intern, I worked on a handful of client accounts pitching to publications such as Well + Good, Health and SELF magazines.

I maintained the company's monthly pitching metrics and wrote press kits for our clients.

January 2021 - April 2021

Staff Reporter, Team Leader

The Capital News Service

Richmond, VA

This fast-paced, breaking news publication covering the Virginia General Assembly 2021 Session allowed me to sharpen my political reporting skills and use my AP Style knowledge to write quick, informative pieces on the latest legislation coming out of both chambers each week.

I covered legislation ranging from the expansion of food assistance programs to the increase in the legal THC concentration in industrial hemp. I spoke twice about my work on the University of Richmond's radio station, WDCE.

June 2020 - August 2020

Visiting Senior Research Associate

Steven P. Nash, University of Richmond Visiting Senior Research Scholar

Richmond, VA (Remote)

I assisted Mr. Nash on his reporting project by contacting newspaper editorial boards throughout the state of North Carolina for their updated opinions submission procedures.

I organized the data in a spreadsheet so that the information was compiled in a pitch deck for when Mr. Nash was ready to pitch his story to publications.

May 2020 - August 2020

Social Media Marketing and Editorial Intern

Go Dash Dot

New York City, NY (Remote)

I created an in-depth editorial calendar for all of Go Dash Dot's social channels including tracking the company's newsletter planning and blog posts.

I organized six separate influencer and product campaigns and wrote corresponding blog posts on the company's blog. I also hosted three video interviews with influencers as a series explaining and exploring fashion's responsibility in the Black Lives Matter movement.

January 2019 - January 2020

Administrative Assistant

Golden Word, LLC

Richmond, VA

Before I became a PR Intern for Golden Word, I worked as the Founder's assistant maintaining the company's editorial calendar analytics and preparing for various client events.

I participated in weekly team meetings where we'd report client developments and review placements, and I organized internal documents for a seasonal community workshop that the company hosted.

June 2019 - August 2019

Non-fiction Book Research Assistant

Author, Shahan Mufti

Richmond, VA

I conducted all of the preliminary research for Mr. Mufti's book project after he presented me with his initial hypothesis. I used multiple databases to find reliable information to complete an in-depth timeline of the event that Mr. Mufti was writing about.

I also submitted multiple FOIA Requests to government agencies requesting access to documents relating to my research. I would meet weekly with Mr. Mufti to report my progress and offer character analysis as I identified main figures in the narrative.

August 2018 - December 2019

Richmond, VA

Here. Weekly is a newsletter showcasing the unique culture and life in Richmond, VA. Featuring three events happening each week, Here. is packaged in a neat email newsletter offering all necessary information, so all there's left for the reader to do is go out and explore!

As the editor of the publication, I was responsible for finding unique events in Richmond and pitching them to the founder. I then drafted the newsletter, including all necessary links for our readers. After publication, I would upload the newsletter to company's website and monitor analytics such as open rates of each issue.

Education

2017 - 2021

University of Richmond

Bachelor's Degree

Magna Cum Laude

Richmond, VA

I double majored in Journalism and Leadership studies. The interdisciplinary courses offered through my leadership degree have given me a unique understanding of interpersonal relationships and effective communication styles.

With a minor in classical studies, I'm especially passionate about the arts and lifestyle and the origins of influence on styles we've come to adore in modern day.

September 2019 - December 2019

University of St. Andrews

Semester Abroad

St. Andrews, Scotland

My courses at St. Andrews primarily focused on Greek and Roman classical studies. These courses have allowed me to understand the classical influences that have transformed our culture.

Having studied Ancient Latin for eight years, I'm aware of how our written and spoken English language has evolved overtime. This understanding not only helps me identify the etymological roots of words, but gives me a greater breadth of knowledge to pull from when composing articles.

LEADERSHIP

March 2020 - April 2021

Lifestyle Editor

The Collegian

Richmond, VA

The Collegian is the University of Richmond's online, student-run newspaper. I was a member of the paper's staff since my freshman year and held a co-international editor position as a junior while studying abroad.

As lifestyle editor, I researched events for students located on and off the University's campus. I led a team of 10+ writers who received story pitches and first-round edits from me. I sat on the editorial board of the paper and collaborated with other editors to ensure that our paper was best serving all members of our community.

January 2020 - April 2021

Vice President of Administration

Gamma Eta chapter of Delta Delta Delta fraternity at the University of Richmond

Richmond, VA

As the VP of Administration, I worked closely with the president to maintain all chapter events and create a yearly calendar of activities according to the chapter's budget and membership.

At the beginning of 2021 our chapter created new programming to promote an equitable sorority experience on UR's campus. I worked with the president to establish a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee to lead our chapter in education initiatives. I also created an Executive Committee. Members of this committee were responsible for conducting an internal review of all of our chapter's practices along with submitting suggestions to our sorority's national headquarters.

Interests

I dabble in travel photography. You'll never find me on a trip without some kind of camera in hand.

I enjoy reading magazine articles that feature small businesses. A cup of coffee and my comfiest weekend clothes are my go-to accessories when curled up with my latest glossies.

I've been designing clothes from a young age and am especially interested in the rise in sustainable fashion. From fitted bodices to pajama pants - I've sewn it all.
